In the bright early morning, the emperor set out from the city
From the imperial court, the pure emperor Jian set forth alone.
He passed a thousand villages, rivers and hills in a single day.
From some shore came the sound of an ape, so he stopped
his light boat and afterwards lived among the hills again.

The imperial court sent him off with applause and fireworks.
Though he should walk a thousand miles a day,
cross a thousand rivers, climb a thousand mountains,
yet he would not be done.On some shore a voice cries out hoarsely ‘Don't stop’/
Calmly the emperor goes on to climb ten thousand more.
